There are people worldwide who are suffering from various skin conditions.

Two of the most well known are psoriasis and eczema, which are extremely common in Ireland.

While there are many helpful ways to help, including miracle creams and Chinese medicine , there is a new alternative medication that has taken the world by storm.

A study which was published in the Journal of Dermatological Science in February 2007 found that CBD oil, which is derived from hemp and not marijuana so does not contain THC, can help those suffering with skin conditions along with other health issues.

It said that CBD oil has anti-inflammatory properties and can offer therapeutic value for psoriasis by slowing the overgrowth of certain skin cells.

An earlier study, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America in 2000, showed in a study using mice that CBD also could have anti-arthritic properties.

A more recent study posted to the Journal of Clinical Investigation found that CBD helps to lower the production of sebum that leads to acne, partly because of its anti-inflammatory effect on the body.

CBD oil has a huge list of benefits not only for helping skin conditions. They are:

  • Relieves pain and inflammation
  • Reduces anxiety
  • Helps fight cancer
  • Relieves nausea
  • Promotes cardiovascular health
  • Lowers incidence of diabetes

CBD oil is available in Ireland and available from Holland & Barret in various potency and sizes here.

What is CBD oil?

CBD is one of many compounds, known as cannabinoids, that are found in the cannabis plant. Researchers have been looking at the potential therapeutic uses of CBD.

Oils that contain concentrations of CBD are known as CBD oils. The concentration and uses of different oils vary.

Where does CBD oil come from?

Most of the CBD used medicinally is found in the least processed form of the cannabis plant, known as hemp.

Hemp and marijuana come from the same plant, cannabis sativa, but they are very different.

Does CBD oil have THC?

No it does not, CBD is not psychoactive. This means that it does not change the state of mind of the person who uses it.

However, it does appear to produce significant changes in the body and has been found to have medical benefits.

Over the years, marijuana farmers in places marijuana is legal have selectively bred their plants to be very high in THC and other compounds that interested them, either for a smell or an effect they had on the plant’s flowers.

On the other hand, hemp farmers have not tended to modify the plant. It is these hemp plants that are used to create CBD oil.
